A Jacksonville man was killed after being struck by a semi truck while attempting to cross US 90. The 41-year-old man was trying to cross the highway at Hoss Keller Road near Sanderson, Florida, when a 1999 Freightliner struck the man. The fatal truck accident occurred in the early morning hours at about 4 a.m.
The accident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. Officers are trying to determine whether the truck driver was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Law enforcement officers are also evaluating the scene of the crash to gather as much information as possible.
This accident is the second crash along county roads in Florida in the past week. FHP reported another accident north of Macclenny where a 14-year-old girl was clipped by a semi truck's mirror as she walked along CR 23C.
Truck drivers must be extra vigilant when driving along county roads to avoid catastrophic accidents. Pedestrians, bicyclists and cars often have limited visibility to approaching trucks on these winding and scenic roads.
